Basic and Advanced
Linkulator has two modes. Switch between them with the Basic and Advanced buttons at the top. The line under the header always tells you which one you're in.

Basic: just the essentials
New visitors start in Basic. It shows only what most people need: lean weight, ratio, fat to add, your curing salt and the amount to add, ingredients and spices, and the sheet.
Basic fills in safe beginner settings for you:
| Setting | Basic uses |
|---|---|
| Fat already in your lean meat | 5% (typical for trimmed lean) |
| How much of your fat trim is actually fat | 90% (typical for back fat or brisket fat) |
| Nitrite target | 115 ppm sodium nitrite for Ireland/EU and the UK, 150 ppm for the USA |
Advanced: every setting
Advanced opens everything: fat content, a mix of cuts, how pure your fat is, the fat you have, the nitrite target, dosing by salt %, spice entry modes, spoons, rub labels and the full safety notes. The page gets a faint blue tint so you know you're in Advanced.
Your Advanced settings are saved but only used in Advanced. Switch back to Basic and the beginner settings apply again, so a hidden value never changes your answer without you seeing it.
Warnings show in both modes. Anything that needs checking (yellow) or doesn't work (red) is always visible.
